Workshop

Asbestos Risk Management Workshop

We are very pleased to inform you that we are working as part of a Nationwide Campaign detailing the duty to manage asbestos in premises. This new legislation tackles the biggest occupational health killer in the UK – asbestos-related diseases. Currently, 4000 people die each year from such diseases, from exposures up to 40 years ago; 25% of those once worked in the building and maintenance trades and would have often worked unknowingly on asbestos-containing materials. The duty to manage is intended to ensure that this is not repeated in the future.

Aim:

To provide detailed information and guidance about the introduction of the duty to manage asbestos in accordance with the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2006.

Objectives for the workshop:

  • To discuss the hazards of working with asbestos and asbestos-containing materials including the ill-health effects.
  • To provide information on changes to the law on asbestos which introduce the duty to manage the risk from asbestos in commercial premises.
  • To work through the logical steps needed to comply with the new regulation.
  • To use practical exercises to show how a written management plan can be developed.
  • To discuss how to implement the plan.
  • To provide information on how the new duty will be introduced.
  • To provide information on further sources of guidance.
